HAIR RESTORATION
At Tampa Bay Hair Group in Tampa, we offer both surgical and non-surgical options for hair restoration. Below are answers to common questions about hairline lowering, PRP for hair, Trichotest, and red light therapy so you know what to expect before you come in.
FOREHEAD REDUCTION – FAQ
Hairline lowering, also called forehead reduction surgery, is a procedure that moves the hairline forward to reduce the height of the forehead. It’s designed for patients who feel their hairline is too high and want more balanced facial proportions. At Tampa Bay Hair Group, Dr. Rayess carefully plans the new hairline to look natural and appropriate for your age, hair type, and facial features.
You may be a candidate if:
● You have a naturally high hairline or tall forehead
● You have good scalp laxity (the skin can be advanced forward)
● Your hair density in the front and sides is reasonably strong
● You are in good general health and have realistic expectations
During your consultation, we’ll examine your scalp, hairline, and overall goals to confirm whether hairline lowering, hair transplant, or a combination makes the most sense.
Hairline lowering:
● Involves advancing the scalp forward and removing a strip of forehead skin
● Produces an immediate change in the height of the forehead
● Leaves a fine incision line along the front hairline that can often be blended or improved over time
Hair transplant:
● Moves individual hair follicles into the hairline and forehead region
● Builds density and shape more gradually
● Is often used to refine and soften the hairline or to camouflage scars
In some patients, we combine both: hairline lowering for the main movement, and later FUE or FUT to refine and perfect the hairline.
Any surgery leaves a scar, but we design and close the incision to make it as discreet as possible:
● The incision is placed along the hairline, allowing hairs to grow through and in front of it in many cases
● With proper healing and hair styling, the scar can often be very difficult to see
● If needed, a hair transplant can be used later to further camouflage the scar
We’ll discuss your scar risk, healing history, and options to optimize scar appearance.
Most patients experience:
● Swelling and tightness around the forehead and scalp for several days
● Mild to moderate discomfort that improves with time
● Sutures or staples that are removed within a specified timeframe (we’ll review this with you)
Most people feel comfortable returning to non-strenuous work within about 7–10 days, depending on their job and personal comfort. We’ll give you detailed instructions on activity restrictions, hair washing, and sleeping positions.
Hairline lowering provides a permanent change in the position of your hairline, though natural aging and some ongoing hair loss can still occur over time.
If you have a strong family history of hair loss or early signs of thinning, we may recommend medical therapy or future hair transplant to help maintain an attractive hairline long term.
